Light As Nutrition

Eating healthy to nourish our bodies is a well-known strategy to maintain overall health. But, did you know that light helps our human bodies break-down and extract the nutrients from the food we eat to fuel our bodily processes?

The photoreceptors in our skin absorb various wavelengths of light. The chromophores in our body turn these wavelengths into the nutrients our bodies need. An example of this is Vitamin D. When we expose ourselves to the sun, our body creates Vitamin D.

Similarly, when our body is exposed to Red Light at the proper wavelengths, it increases the production of ATP in the mitochondria of our cells giving our cells more energy. We like to think of it as an energy drink for your cells.
